Tucked away beside the Tramway in Pollokshields, The Hidden Gardens is an award-winning public green space offering a calm retreat in the heart of the southside. Created in 2003 by public arts organisation NVA, The Hidden Gardens is a space dedicated to peace. The gardens’ landscaping and planting draw inspiration from historic paradise gardens, reinforcing the space’s focus on reflection, shared experience and the universal appeal of nature. This is a space where people of all cultures and backgrounds can relax, connect with nature and spend time together.

Visitors can wander through the accessible landscaped paths, discover colourful planting beds and enjoy open lawns that are ideal for a quiet break or a picnic. The gardens provide a peaceful setting for reading, meeting friends or simply escaping the city. Throughout the year, a varied programme of events and activities encourages visitors to get involved, learn new skills and experience the space in different ways. The site also includes dedicated areas for group activities and outdoor learning, regularly used by local organisations, schools and community groups.

Free to visit and open to the public, the space is kept as a sanctuary, so no dogs, amplified music, smoking, alcohol, bikes or ball games are permitted in the space. The Hidden Gardens is a place for both quiet moments and community connection: a unique urban sanctuary where Glasgow’s diversity is reflected in a shared green space.
