Finnie, the Glasgow 2026 mascot, visited one of Scotland’s most important transport hubs this week as Glasgow Airport becomes an Official Supporter of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and an Official Supporter of Team Scotland.
Thousands of athletes, officials and spectators are set to visit Glasgow as the city hosts the biggest sporting event in the UK this year from 23 July to 2 August. Glasgow Airport will be a key transport link for the 74 nations and territories from across the Commonwealth that will be competing in 10 sports and six Para sports in four iconic venues.
Thanks to the new relationship between Glasgow 2026 and Glasgow Airport, athletes and teams, as well as travelling spectators will experience the Games as soon as they touch down with Finnie magic sprinkled throughout the airport as well as photo opportunities and Games branding.
The new partnership was celebrated this week as the Games’ official mascot, Finnie became the first unicorn in the airport’s 80-year history to step-hoof on the runway.
Finnie, the Games’ hooved hypemaster, commented on her experience, saying: “Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a unicorn!
“I had so much fun checking-in and celebrating this partnership. Glasgow Airport is a gateway to the city and it was magical galloping down the very runway that thousands of athletes will arrive on this summer. They’re going to be so excited when they arrive!”
Gavin Birch-Williams, Managing Director of Glasgow Airport, said: "Glasgow Airport is proud to play its part in supporting the Commonwealth Games as the city and airport prepares to welcome athletes, officials and visitors from across the globe.
"This event presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase Glasgow and Scotland at their very best, and our team is committed to delivering a warm, efficient and memorable arrival experience for everyone travelling through our airport.
"Our partnership with the Games reflects our shared ambition to create a truly world-class event and to leave a lasting legacy for the region.”
Glasgow Airport will also become an Official Supporter to Team Scotland.
