The prestigious tournament will take place at the Glasgow International Arena from 19-22 November, with up to 400 elite athletes from across the globe expected to compete for honours.

The Scottish Open is a highlight of the Badminton Scotland calendar and offers fans the chance to watch elite players from around the world alongside Scotland’s leading homegrown talent.

Last year’s tournament delivered plenty of memorable moments for the home crowd. Kirsty Gilmour claimed her third women’s singles title, while Julie MacPherson and Ciara Torrance produced a career-best performance on home soil by reaching the women’s doubles final.

The Scottish pair narrowly missed out on the title, falling to Korea’s Kim Min Ji and Ye Na Lee, but their run underlined the strength of Scotland’s doubles contingent.

MacPherson also reached the mixed doubles semi-finals alongside Alex Dunn. Having won the title together in 2024, the pair will be hoping to return to the latter stages of the competition and challenge for another Scottish Open crown this year.

"I’m really looking forward to playing at home again”, said MacPherson. “It's always one of the highlights of the year!

“We had a really good run all the way to the final last year so hopefully we can go one better this year with the help of the Scottish crowd."

Torrance continued “I can’t wait for the Scottish open this year, the crowd was fantastic last year and were a huge part of our journey in reaching the final.

“We’re super excited to be a part of such a great tournament again and are looking to take it a step further than last year and secure the title!”

Badminton Scotland CEO Alan McMillan is looking forward to welcoming the tournament back to Glasgow.

“I’m delighted to be able to announce the return of the Scottish Open Badminton Championships in 2026,” said McMillan.

“This tournament has always been a highlight on our calendar, showcasing top-tier talent from around the world while providing a platform for our local players to compete at the highest level.

“Our performance players are entering a key phase of the cycle as they build towards the Olympic qualification period, which starts next year, and home support can make the difference.

“I hope as many fans as possible take the opportunity to cheer on our players in November.”

The event will once again be hosted at the Glasgow International Arena, with support from the City of Glasgow.
